Description of Each Process...

Asses If Odor Treatment is Necessary :

In some cases our normal cleaning will remove the pet urine and pet odor from the carpet. In other cases a specialized treatment may be required. It is important to have a conversation with one of USClean’s expert technicians to see if pet urine and pet odor treatment is even necessary.

Pinpoint Where the Odor is Coming From :

If pet urine and odor removal is necessary then the USClean pet odor and urine cleaning service will need to determine where it is coming from. Other than smelling, a key sign to look for is visible urine or invisible messes using a black light.

Determine if the Odor is Surface or Sub-Surface :

A surface treatment involves treating the face yarns of the carpet. This is usually done when the pet odor cannot be pinpointed to a specific location in a room (usually the smell lingers around). A sub-surface treatment by USClean’s pet odor and urine removal cleaning service involves a full saturation of a specific area in the room. This allows for deep penetration into the padding and sub-floor.

Neutralize Odor :

This is an important step because it helps remove the pet odor from the carpet, making it much more pleasant to work near or be around. When pet urine gets wet the pores from the salt of the dried urine open up and stink up the room. Using the USClean pet odor and urine removal cleaning service neutralizes the pet odor, helping to stop this from happening.

Treat Pet Urine Contamination Using our Enzyme :

Our stomach produces millions and millions of enzymes to digest food. This same principle is used by the USClean pet odor and urine removal cleaning service when treating pet urine since bacteria are thriving on the food source in the contaminated pet urine area. When applying an enzyme digester the enzymes digest the food source and the bacteria naturally dies.

15 Facts you don’t know about your Pet Urine and Pet Odor Problem but Should !

Fact 1 : Retail industry makes urine and pet odor removal seem easy when it’s not.

The retail industry makes pet urine and pet odor removal seem very easy and often misleads consumers into thinking that their products will work for every pet urine and pet odor situation. Carpet cleaners do not like information given by these big companies for pet urine and pet odor removal because there is a lot more that goes into it then spraying some magic mist or solution. Not only that: if the wrong mixture of chemicals is used at the wrong state the urine is in it can actually make the urine problem a whole lot worse !

Fact 2: Pet urine contains a variety of substances.

Pet urine contains uric acid, cholesterol, water, urea, yellow pigment, enzymes, etc. In fact, before it hits any surface, it is quite pure and contains no harmful bacteria. All these substances provide a great food source for bacteria.

Fact 3: Pet urine is one of the only chemicals to change its pH.

Once urine leaves the body it is in an acid state, usually with a pH between 5 and 6. Pet urine is unique because when it dries all the moisture evaporates, leaving salt crystals. The dried pet urine takes on a very high alkaline state, usually between a pH of 9 and 11.

Fact 4: Pet urine is a food source !

Bacteria thrive on wet and warm climates, growing its best within this type of environment. Pet urine is naturally warm and wet and the instant it lands on the carpet or upholstery it becomes a very attractive place for bacteria to thrive and grow.

Fact 5: Pet urine is a permanent stain.

Pet urine will begin to oxidize and react with the carpet. During this process the carpet will begin to change color and in most cases become permanent, much like rust. The reason the affected carpet changes or loses its color is due to the ammonia, not the presence of the pet urine. Since the pet urine begins to oxidize the carpet it can leave a permanent mark. In most cases the USClean pet odor and urine removal service is able to take out or change the yellow coloration back to the normal color of the carpet.

Fact 6: Pet urine stains may be bigger than they seem.

Even though the area where the pet urine landed may seem small it spreads in a much larger area between the backing of the carpet and the padding. Once the pet urine is trapped and not promptly removed some serious damage can happen to the carpet as well as the padding.

Fact 7: If not treated properly, pet urine may wick back.

When the padding gets contaminated with any large amount of moisture the wet substances may wick to the surface. For example, if you had a wet sponge and placed a dry paper towel on it the paper towel would absorb the moisture of the sponge. This same effect can happen with pet urine being in the pad.

Fact 8: Cat urine is worse than dog urine.

Cats do not drink as much water as dogs and quite often a cat’s diet is much higher in protein, making their urine more concentrated and acidic. Cat urine does much more damage to carpet when compared to dog urine. The odor from cat urine is also stronger than the odor from dog urine.

Fact 9: Pet urine penetrates more than just carpet and padding.

Pet odor can create a very complicated situation. Depending on heat, humidity and a number of other conditions the pet odor can get into walls, baseboards, furniture, sub flooring and any other material you may have in the room. In some cases, removing pet odor can become a restorative type of cleaning which can be very time consuming and expensive.

Fact 10: Over the counter air-fresheners are masking agents.

Unfortunately there is not a single product you can buy in the store that will resolve the odor from pet urine. The stuff that gets sprayed into the air binds to the odor molecules and removes them or simply replaces them with a stronger and more pleasing smell to overpower the urine odor. To remove pet odor effectively, one must go to the source and treat it properly. Leave it to the professionals to take care of the pet odor coming from the carpet or upholstery by contacting the USClean pet odor and urine removal service today. There are specific chemicals only available to trained and experienced technicians who will either provide a temporary permanent solution depending on your goals.

Fact 11: You can get used to the pet odor smell and not even know it’s there.

When living in an environment with many types of odors the olfactory sensors in our brains get used to certain smells. There may be an odor in your home and you may not even know it. After treating odor it is a wise idea to introduce a new pleasant smell that will linger around the home for a few days. This new smell reprograms the olfactory sensor. After the reprogramming, our senses are back to normal and we can again appreciate the true odor of our home.

Fact 12: Pet urine does show up with a black light.

Pet urine contains a variety of substances. Once these substances come in contact with the carpet the carpet starts its oxidization process which can be detected with the use of a black light. The professional cleaners at the USClean pet odor and urine cleaning service use a high intensity black light to pinpoint exactly where the pet urine is.

Fact 13: An animal’s medicine can affect their urine.

Some types of medicines can make urine much worse. If your animal is on medicine please let one of the USClean pet odor and urine removal technicians know.

Fact 14: You can take action !

The best thing to do is to blot up any of the moisture using a towel when you notice the pet urine. Getting at the excess moisture will help slow bacteria from growing as well as helping to slow down the urine’s ammonia from oxidizing the carpet. After blotting it up apply a neutral cleaning agent like our USClean spot cleaner. It works great on pet urine and pet vomit. DO NOT put vinegar on urine when it is in a wet and fresh state! Remember, pet urine is acidic. Vinegar is also acidic and carpet is naturally acidic. When you combine 3 acidic substances bad things can happen. If pet urine is in a dry state then applying a little bit of diluted vinegar may remove the pet urine stain.

Fact 15: Over the counter spot cleaners can do more damage than good !

DO NOT use over the counter spot cleaners. Most of these cleaners are very high on the alkalinity side of the pH scale, usually falling between 9 and 11. When you treat dry pet urine with an alkaline cleaner bad things can happen. Many times the chemistry of the dried crystallized state of the pet urine can change, making it impossible to take out or stop the oxidized state of the carpet for professionals. Call us and let us take care of the problem for you with our expert team of pet odor and urine removal cleaners.
