History and Vision of USClean

Kim and I grew up as athletes. Kim played NCAA Division 1 basketball and I coached NCAA Division 2 basketball. We are competitive people and strive for excellence in everything we do. We enjoy a good challenge and were looking for an opportunity that would give us the satisfaction of being in a competitive market where we could give people results that would result in a loyal customer base. We saw an opportunity in the cleaning industry as people were starting to see the importance of how a clean environment affects the wellness of an individual. In June 2005 we moved to Overland Park, Kansas to start our own textile cleaning business. At first we started with carpet cleaning. We then saw a need for upholstery, leather, mattress, tile, grout, Oriental rug cleaning and stone cleaning as well as pet odor control and the application of fabric protectants. We added those cleaning services at a later time after doing our homework and getting further education along with cleaning certifications. According to Dr. Michael Berry, author of “Protecting the Built Environment: Cleaning for Health”, our environment has a huge impact on our health. Maintaining a clean environment is one way to help improve health as well as helping to live a healthier lifestyle. There is tremendous benefit in providing a service that not only gives us financial security but also gives our customers the peace of mind that their home or business is a healthy environment.

With this mindset USClean’s long term goal is to become a fully sourced cleaning and preventative maintenance company. Over the next several years we will continue to find new services to introduce to our customers that will help protect not only their home, building and assets but also to help protect their health. Some of the future services we hope to add are maid and janitorial services, window and duct cleaning, lawn care and power washing.

Most homeowners and business owners are dealing with multiple vendors when providing these types of preventative maintenance programs. Wouldn’t you agree it is much easier to work with one company that can provide your entire home and business maintenance services instead of balancing multiple companies? We think so and so do many of our customers. This is the direction we are going toward over the next 5 to 10 years.



A Day in the Life of a Franchisee

USClean provides a lot of attractive products and services to both the customer and franchisee.

First, let’s talk about it from the customer’s perspective. Our cleaning system encompasses a wide variety of services. We clean carpet, upholstery, Oriental rugs, mattresses, leather, tile, grout and stone. We are able to remove pet odor from any of these items as well as apply protective coatings to help increase their longevity. Our neutral spot cleaner is an extremely popular item for helping with in-between cleanings. We also sell Oriental rug pads and can provide allergen control. Our free carpet consultation service allows us to educate our customers on the buying process when they are looking for new carpets too. Often times a carpet dealer will pay us a significant referral fee for handing one of our customers over to them. Naturally, our services help improve a client’s indoor air quality while we use safer products for people, pets and the planet. Our cleaning system has a quick drying time which cuts down on any inconvenience a customer may encounter when using a cleaning service. Our level of education, attention to detail and professionalism make for a long lasting and trusted relationship. To top it off, our cleaning system gives immediate results.

Our franchisees get the added benefit of our call center. It is important that our franchisees focus on their business — not answering phone calls, scheduling appointments or answering difficult questions, so we take that burden off their shoulders and carry it for them. Obviously we already have templates for newsletters, email marketing lists, legal contracts and documents, advertisement and promotional materials, sales proposals, compensation for technicians and sales reps, internet advertising campaigns, an in-depth website and more.

We’ve designed our system to be as simple as someone wants to be. If an individual wants to do all the work themselves they can. Alternately, they can choose to hire the same work out. It’s really up to them. How big do they want to be? Again, it’s entirely up to the individual and we are right there, helping our franchisee reach their goals. This is a team effort and the more success our franchisees have the more success we have too — and vice-versa.

A typical day would entail checking the schedule on the internet and ensuring that all cleanings get done for the day. Obviously there other business responsibilities that tie into the work week like some accounting, advertising, planning — normal business work. These responsibilities can typically take a few hours a week — maybe longer, depending on the individual. We always recommend reviewing the technical side of things by reading the manuals, calling other franchisees or the home office.



Profile of “Perfect” Franchisee Candidate

As a collegiate basketball coach, two of my many responsibilities included recruiting and player development. My job was to look for players who

had potential as well as a mindset of being coachable. I’ll give you an example to illustrate my point on our philosophy:

A young, 17 year old senior sent in a couple game tapes of him playing. After watching them it was evident that he had some raw talent. We decided to bring him in to play with the team for an open try-out. His shot was horrible and his ability to dribble the basketball was not very good. However, he played extremely hard, knew how to run the floor and had a great attitude.

He accepted our offer for a scholarship and we began to teach him how to play our style of basketball. His first year was very tough because we red-shirted him and we had to break him down and teach him how to shoot and dribble. By his second year he played a lot of minutes and was starting to become more confident in his ability to compete. There were many bumps on the road toward his path of future success and he saw the vision we had seen and was willing to work as hard as he could to achieve it. Unfortunately, I was not able to coach him for his remaining 3 years due to leaving the university and moving to Kansas. I followed him and spoke with him often. By his senior year he was an all conference player averaging more than 18 points and 9 rebounds per game. He was a force to be reckoned with. We gave him the tools early on and took the time to teach him the basic fundamentals. From there he took what we taught him and made it his own. He took ownership for himself and worked very hard at what we taught him.

The franchisee we are looking for is like this one young man — we want individuals who have a basic understanding of business practices and will allow us to give them the tools they need to be successful. I want to make it very clear that USClean is not for everyone and that we are going to be picky on bringing the right individuals to our cleaning service business. We have come to this philosophy from reading a very important chapter in a book called “Good to Great” by Jim Collins.

Collins talks about a bus where the bus represents your business. The driver of the bus is the owner and there are many people on it. The first question to ask yourself is, “Are the right people on the bus?” If not, get those individuals off the bus right away! Then start to bring on the right people. Once you get the right people on the bus, ask yourself the question, “Do I have each person sitting in the right seat?” If not, get people up and move them to the right seat, the seat being the department an individual may be in. Once that is accomplished, evaluate and see if you have each person sitting next to the right person. If not, move them around a bit more.

We are looking to bring the right people onto our bus. These individuals need to be coachable, willing to sacrifice and willing to put forth effort in having their USClean business become as successful as possible.

One final point about the ideal franchisee:

They must come in with the understanding that this is a young, up-and-coming opportunity where there will be some growing pains. Our staff is prepared to do everything we can to keep things as smooth and efficient as possible. If they are looking for something that is already 100% established with no changes planned in the future, USClean is not the right opportunity for them. We want individuals who get excited about the possibility of adding additional sources of revenue to their business over the next 5 to 10 years. We want our franchisees to help with the growth process by making recommendations on how to make this franchise better. There may be a few bumps on the road to success and they need to be okay with that.



Key Selling Points of USClean

USClean is very different from the typical stereotype of a carpet cleaner. We have broken the mold and set a new and higher standard for the industry. Our oxygenated cleaning solution is efficient and cost effective (not mentioning that the cleaning results are superb!). Our solution is safer for people, pets and the planet. The items we clean usually dry between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Our cleaning process stops stains from re-appearing and leaves the carpet and fabric soft to the touch — no more sticky residues that attract soil. The technicians we send out are trained and certified through a non-profit organization called the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration certification program (or IICRC). Our technicians are very knowledgeable and treat customers with respect. This makes people feel comfortable with the services we provide. We are one of the only oxygenated carpet cleaning franchises that require our franchisees to become an IICRC certified firm in all the services they provide. This helps keep everyone honest and accountable, from the franchisor to the franchisee. We are one of the only textile cleaning franchises that offers a referral rewards program for our franchisees. This allows them to build a passive secondary revenue stream that is ongoing as long as they and their referred franchisees are involved with USClean. We do this to encourage a healthy business culture that keeps everyone honest and accountable with one another. There are many other wonderful things we do for our franchisees and customers and these will be revealed when you join our team.





General Information

Territory

Your franchise will receive a specific number of households, divided by specific zip codes, streets and or counties. You will have exclusive rights to your territory. No other franchisee will be able to direct mail or otherwise market into your territory! Once you become a franchisee we will help you find the territory that best fits your criteria.


Your Investment

Initial Franchise Fee: $19,900.00.
Call Center Fee: $7.00 per booked job that generates revenue.
Franchise Royalty Fee: 6% of gross revenue.

Option A Business Package:

This package costs $102,995.00 and includes all the equipment, products, promotional materials and supplies necessary for providing services in carpet, upholstery, mattress , Oriental rug, leather, hardwood floor, tile, stone and grout/concrete cleaning. It also includes everything necessary for performing odor control and re-application of sealants and fabric protectants. A new Chevy 2500 extended cargo van with shelving, truck mount and vehicle wrap are included in this package as well.

Option B Business Package: The Basic Package costs $19,000.00. It consists of equipment, promotional materials products and supplies to commence the business operation to perform services in carpet cleaning.

The Specialty Package costs $4,500.00. It contains additional equipment, product, promotional materials and supplies for the business operation to perform services in upholstery, leather, mattress and Oriental rug cleaning as well as odor control and those services available with the Basic Package and/or Hard Floor Package.

The Hard Floors Package costs $4,500.00. It contains additional equipment, promotional materials, products and supplies for the business operation to perform services in stone, tile, grout and hardwood floor cleaning and application of sealant in addition to the services available with the Basic Package and/or Specialty Package.

Financing may be available.


Advertising Marketing

We have an in-house advertising and marketing department designed to help the people in your territory know about your business. Furthermore, we have negotiated great rates with select national advertising companies to help promote your business.

You can also design your own ads and explore your own advertising interests as long as all communications efforts are approved by our advertising department. Being a franchisee allows you to use our logo and pictures on your advertisements.


Call Center and Online Scheduling

The call center frees you from having to answer your own phone calls and performing the work of selling your cleaning services on the phone. Such work is very time consuming and stressful and we have trained and qualified individuals who take this burden off your shoulders. This gives you more time to focus on other things you are passionate about.

You have access to your schedule at any time and from any place with a computer and internet access. The schedule is updated in real time, meaning you can see changes to your schedule as they happen!


Cleaning Services

We offer a wide variety of cleaning services and we are always looking for new services to add. Our goal is to combine all of these services into one franchise, allowing for unlimited growth.

Currently we provide the cleaning of carpet, upholstery, leather, Oriental rugs, mattresses, hard wood, tile, stone and grout as well as pet-odor treatments and reapplication of carpet protectant.

The top services we would like to add in the near future are:

Window cleaning
Blind and drape cleaning
Air duct cleaning
Power washing driveways, garages, fences and decks
Specialized car detailing
Maid services
You get multiple franchises in one. Many franchises require you to pay an additional franchise fee to add a service and may also charge you an additional royalty fee. We will allow for you to add these services if and when they become available, only requiring the cost of equipment and product. Support

We offer ongoing support to help your business grow and become more profitable. As a new franchisee you will automatically be part of our “Mentor Program.” You will be assigned a mentor to help your business grow. They will be side by side with your new franchise, helping to give you advice and direction.

Your assigned mentor will currently be a franchisee — someone who has demonstrated a profitable franchise. They have been in the trenches and have had many of the same questions, fears and doubts you will probably have or go through. They encourage, motivate and mentor you in the beginning stages of your business. After successful completion of the Mentor Program (and if your business becomes very profitable) you will have the added opportunity to become a mentor and share your experience and wisdom with new franchisees!


Referral Rewards Program

We believe in rewarding our franchisees for any individual they personally sponsor to become a franchisee. We have developed a system to allow for franchisees to build another business through their franchise. This is completely optional and not required to become a franchisee.

Here is how it works:

If you personally sponsor an individual to purchase a franchise you will receive 10% of the franchise fee plus a tier 1 bonus of 10% of their 6% royalty fee. This tier 1 bonus is ongoing and will last as long as the sponsored individual or you are with USClean.

But wait, there’s more — we have a tier 2 bonus for you as well. If someone you sponsored decides to sponsor an individual, not only will they get their tier 1 bonus, but you will also receive a tier 2 bonus of 5% of your individual’s sponsored individual’s 6% royalty fee. This tier 2 bonus is ongoing and will last as long as the sponsored individual or you are with USClean. Visit Us - Check Us Out!
